    Sean's father's name is Dr. Paul Jr. is a Chiropractor, and his mother's name is Joanna Gilmartin. Sean studied in Crespi Carmelite High School at Encino, California, and was a Florida State University College Baseball player for the Florida State Seminoles baseball team. When he was a junior in 2011, Sean was named All-American by Baseball America.

    With 28th Overall Selection, Gilmartin was drafted in the first round by the Atlanta Braves of the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

    Gilmartin has also played with Gold Coast League Braves, Rome Braves, Gwinnett Braves, and Mississippi Braves in Atlanta Farm.
