American actress Rosa Perez is a multi-talented actress working for both big and small screens. Besides acting, she is also a singer, community activist, dancer, talk show host, writer, and choreographer.
The actress is loved and respected by people all over the world and she recently has two movies The Last Thing He Wanted, and Birds Of Prey in post production.

Rosa Maria Perez was born on 6 September 1964 in Brooklyn, New York to Puerto-Rican parents Ismael Serrano (father -a navy merchant) & mother Lydia Pérez (a singer).
Her parents were not married, and she was conceived of an extra-marital affair. She was born at the Greenpoint Hospital in Brooklyn. Perez has 10 half siblings from her mother's side.
She never received the care any child should receive growing up. As an infant, her maternal aunt took care of her until her mother put her under nursing care at the age of three.
Her mother suffered was a schizophrenic, so Perez grew without having her parents around. Her mother died fighting AIDS in 1999.
After that she was sent to her foster parents but with adjustment issues she was handed to nuns, where she was brought up as a strict Catholic. However, she recalls, suffering at the hands of a few cruel nuns.

After graduating, she studied marine biology in Los Angeles and to support her college, Rosie started dancing in a LA based club. Her first ever TV experience was with the famous Don Cornelius' show Soul Train where she worked as a background dancer.

When she was 24 years old, actor-director Spike Lee spotted her in a club and offered Perez her career's first major acting role in 1989's movie Do the Right Thing.
