Who would have guessed the future of emo would be so short-lived? Gustav Elijah Åhr AKA Lil Peep died on November 15, 2017, but his music is still relocatable to a lot of people.
Lil Peep was an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and model who revived the emo style rap and rock-rap. Gustav uploaded music in SoundCloud with a pseudonym Lil Peep; he chose the rap name because his mother had called him "Peep" when he was a child.
Lil Peep was a very likable figure, more like Grunz music's pioneer Kurt Cobain for Emo rap. His rap song Save That Shit has over 230 million views on YouTube.
He is famous for his oddly relocatable, yet massively depressing emo-rap songs. He actually became a massive independent star after he released Mall Music in 2015 via SoundCloud and Apple music.
Oddly enough, he usually talked and sang about depression, and the day he died, he was seen live for five instances telling his fans that he did mushrooms and various drugs. Strangely, the same day Peep on one of his videos had quoted:
"When I die, you'll love me."
To make things scarier, Lil Peep's friend Bexey Swan recorded Lil Peep's death because he thought that Peep was asleep; the video itself was more than enough to make Peep's death super controversial.
Lil Peep is also famous for his last album Everybody's Everything, which was released on 15th November 2019 after his death.
As a matter of fact, Lil Peep was a SoundCloud rapper since 2014, using and had a very hardcore fan base after several of his mix-tapes were released.
He started getting famous to non-hardcore-emo-rap communities after he released his mix-tape songs collection Hellboy in 2016.
Further, after he released an actual album Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 1 in 2017, Lil Peep became the god of modern-day music lovers, his album peaked at No. 38 on the Billboard 200.
Lil Peep and XXXTentacion (both deceased) did a song Falling Down, which picked 13th spot on Billboard Hot 100 in October 2018.
Lil Peep the did the squeal of Come Over When You're Sober (Part 2), which picked up at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, making it his first US top 10 albums.
Lil Peep was a young adult of only 21 when he died; as a matter of fact, he had just celebrated his 21 birthday a week before he sadly died. As per Peep himself, he was a productive junkie. He unfortunately, was a frequent user of drugs and had struggled with mental health issues for a long time.
After his death, Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner proved that accidental overdose of fentanyl and Xanax caused Lil Peep's death.
Despite being born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Lil Peep was raised in Long Island, New York.
Peep belonged from a really educated family as his parents were both Harvard graduates.
Åhr is of mixed European Caucasian ethnicity as his mother was Irish, and his father was of Swedish-German descent. Moreover, Åhr once claimed to have Swedish citizenship on Twitter.
Peep grew up in the absence of his father as his parents separated when he was only 14. His parent's separation was something Peep never got over with.
However, he attended Lindell Elementary School when his parents were together. Then, he attended Long Beach High School in Lido Beach, New York, after moving with his mother to the Long Beach.
He reportedly was a bright student but was on the Dean's list, not attending his classes regularly. He then dropped out of high school and later earned his diploma online.
His musical abilities were admired by his fellow students, and Peep was also very good at poetry. So, after quitting schools, he started posting music on YouTube and SoundCloud.
Åhr then got his first face tattoo at the age of 14; his first face tatt was a broken heart below his left eye.
Even his music suggests he was heartbroken and couldn't live in Long Island, so he moved to Los Angeles and started putting music out under a pseudonym Lil Peep. He also said that seeing the broken heart on his face motivated him to make music.
Growing up, Lil Peep was a loner and had friends online. He was heavily inspired by iLoveMakonnen and Seshhollowaterboyz.
While at Long Island, Peep lived with childhood friend Brennan Savage for a short time until both moved to Los Angeles. In Long Island, Peep used to release his music as "Trap Goose."
Lil Peep moves to Los Angeles and met his online friends and started living in Skid Row. He was also time and again homeless and even lived with Brennan Savage while Savage began college.
Peep was a good friend of Craig Xen, who introduced him to JGRXXN, who needed a singer.
Peep then met Atlanta rapper-producer JGRXXN, and Florida rappers Ghostemane, and Schemaposse and also lived with them for a short period.
Lil Peep reportedly attended Glendale Community College in L.A. for a short time.
Lil Peep was shot into the stardom after releasing a mixtape, Lil Peep Part One. The song was an instant hit and generated 4,000 plays in its first week.
As the momentum was growing, he released his first two constitutive extended mixes Feelz, and Live Forever.
Lil Peep gained a huge recognization and fan base after he released another single "Star Shopping" the song was re-released even after his death and now has over 45 million views on YouTube alone.
Lil Peep released Beamer Boy with Schemaposse in March 2016; the song became one of his most memorable songs.
After the release of Beamer Boy, the following month, Schemaposse collapsed, then Lil Peep and, one of the Schemaposse members and his friend Skid Row and released Crybaby in 2016 with another band Gothboiclique.
As per Lil Peep, the whole Crybaby album was recorded a $150 microphone.
After Crybaby, Sarah Stennett, the co-founder/CEO of First Access Entertainment (FAE), signed Lil Peep. The relationship that Peep & Sarah shared wasn't just confined to business; they were eachother's friend.
Successful with his previous album, again in months, Lil Peep released another album Hellboy which had some hit songs like OMFG and Girls. The album was highly praised by music critics and was heavily streamed in online platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube.
Following Hellboy, Peep did his first-ever solo tour, The Peep Show, from April 2017 to May 2017.
Peep reportedly used Mineral's LoveLetterTypewriter's fragment in May 2017. The sample he used in "Hollywood Dreaming" was unaccredited. After the allegations came in, Peep said he was only showing some love to the Mineral's work.
Peep before his death, at his tour tweeted:
'You would love me when I am gone.'
It looks like he got his wish fulfilled! "Awful Things" from Come Over When You're Sober, Part One charted number 79 on Billboard Hot 100.
Peep worked tirelessly and had collaborated with many singers prior to his death, but his untimely death undoubtedly delayed the process. In the process, his collaboration with Marshmello On January 12, 2018, released a collaboration song with Peep titled "Spotlight."
Then, Juicy J released another Lil Peep Colab "Got 'Em Like" on January 15, 2018, which featured Lil Peep, and later, Wiz Khalifa also jumped into the track on Juicy J's request.
Again, SoundCloud rapper Teddy released another Lil Peep song Dreams & Nightmares on January 27, 2018.
Then in early 2018, Columbia Records acquired rights to Peep's music archive, and on May 13, 2018, another super-hit Peep posthumous single 4 Gold Chains featuring Clams Casino was released.
Makonnen's Falling Down Ft. Lil Peep was re-mixed along with another recently deceased rapper XXXTentacion, following Peep's death, on September 19, 2018, and the song peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
After Peep's family gave his next album a go, his second posthumous album Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 single cover song "Cry Alone" was released on October 18, 2018.
A month later, on November 1, 2018, the album's second single The Runaway was officially released. This was the first time Peep's song debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 with 81,000 album-equivalent sales and was Peep's first-ever Billboard top tens.
On January 31, 2019, Peep's collaboration with ILoveMakonnen and later added Fall Out Boy, "I've Been Waiting," was released.
On March 10, 2019, a Docu-series Everybody's Everything was released in 2019's January, alongside its music collection, which kept dropping one by one, up until November 2019 where the album was compiled.
Additionally, Peep and iLoveMakonnen, another album are expected to drop with Makonnen's label Warner Bros.
Lil Peep was a massive fan of tattoos, and some of his symbols had a deeper meaning, and some were just beautiful pieces of art collected here and there. His body in total was a colorful canvas with a lot of experiences carved to it.
The rapper had his first Tattoo carved at the age of 14, which was a broken heart below his left cheek. As per Peep, it gave him motivation.
Some of his tattoos are the names of his songs like hell-boy, cry baby, his current band's last name Clique, Mom, homesick, daddy, Exit life, wavy baby, MCM, and XCVI, & miss you for alpha-numeric tattoos.
Additionally, he has Flowers, Haloween pumpkin, insects, centipede, crescent, broken heart, cascade, crying mickey mouse, marijuana leaf, his dog meep, Simpson's Lisa screaming, and mom wrote right below Lisa, pink panther, Race flag, an upside-down cross, and many other things.
His tattoos had many deep meanings; he basically wrote his whole life story in his symbols.
His emotions, carefree nature, and love towards his parents were all carved into his body.
Lil Peep wasn't a mystery man when it came to dating! He was only 21 years old when he died of drug overdose. The singer-model was a bisexual young man who lived a traumatic childhood. He loved his parents who divorced while Peep was young.
Peep had seen his family separate, at an early age, and was kind of a loner growing up!
Some of his early songs suggest that he was deeply shaken by a break-up back in Long Beach. The singer-rapper lived with depression and was addicted to several medications. Yet, he was a very lovable man.
Lil Peep at one point of time dated a former Disney-Actress, model and singer Bella Throne. The Couple was once seen smooching around and kissing each other in Los Angeles.
Even the paparazzi caught them hand on hand! Reportedly, they were an item, but none of the singers had admitted any thing specifically.
Lil Peep was also rumored to have dated his friend and social media influencer Arzaylea Rodriguez, a Porto-Rican model. The pair has multiple photographs swerling into the web but none of these two stars ever confirmed if they were dating.
But here's a video which will explain how close these two friends were.
Reportedly, after Peep And Arzalya split, she dated Luke Hemmings.
On September, Lil Peep and his collabourator /musician friend iLoveMakonnen started uploading suspicious pictures on the internet. This time around, it looked like hip-hop was ready to accept this duo with open arms.
In a series of IG pictures, iLoveMakonnen and Lil Peep were seen together, and in a fan comment which read:
You need to wife him up
To which LoveMakonnen replied:
Take a look at the post:
Which means the rapper duo was secretly married. But they very well might just be joking! It could be Tyler the creator and Jaden Smith kind of joke as well.
But we still are waiting on iLoveMakonnen to open up about it, in his upcoming album with Lil Peep.
As a SoundCloud rapper, Lil Peep used to make around $3 per 1000 streams in his early days. He reportedly used to make near to no money when he first started, and later, Lil Peep only from SoundCloud started making over $30 to $40 thousand per single.
Additionally, his songs were also on YouTube and he made just as much from YouTube as well. The independent Emo-rapper in total made over $150 thousand per release, meaning: Peep had a net worth of over $1.5 million raised only from online platforms.
Moreover, Peep also did shows all over the States and later died in Arizona while he was on a tour to promote his upcoming release Come Over When You Are Sober.
Additionally, his posthumous billboard top charter album and his recent docu-musical also does the number on his current worth. Lil Peep even after his death hasn't stopped dropping fly sh*t only!
Additionally, in 2020 his album with iLoveMakonnen is desperately one of the most awaited record collection in late 2019, means it surely will see the upward graph!
