Freddie Mercury was born on the 5th of September, 1946, in Show Town, the British protectorate of Zanzibar, now part of Tanzania. His parents, Bomi Bulsara and Jer Bulsara, were Parsi-Indian. Likewise, he also has a sibling sister Kashmira Bulsara.
Growing up, he attended St. Peter's English Boarding School in Panchgani, fifty miles outside Bombay, after moving from his hometown.
It was back in Panchgani school; his friends started calling him Freddie, which eventually became his name adopted by his parents as well.

Mercury was open about being Bisexual, but before revealing he was gay, Mercury met May Austin in 1969 when she was a 19-year-old music store worker. In contrast, Freddie was a 24-year-old who was a rising superstar.
They soon started dating, and Mercury also wrote a song, "Love of My Life," dedicated to Austin.
