    French businessman Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault better known as Bernard Arnault is the richest man in Europe and is soon to be the richest man in the world. The French billionaire, luxury goods producer is the chairman and chief executive of Louis Vuitton. 

    Bernard's stars started shining bright since April 2018, he became the richest person in fashion, topping Zara's Amancio Ortega.

    So far, 2019 has also been a fine year for the richest Europian man and world's third-richest person.

    Bernard Arnault was born in Roubaix, France to father Jean Arnault (a construction Firm Owner) and mother Marie-Josèphe Savinel on 5 March 1949. Bernard, who is currently age 70 years old, was a bright student from a very young age.  

    After acquiring a bachelor's degree from the Lycée Maxence Van Der Meersch in Roubaix, Arnault acquired an M.Sc from École Polytechnique in Palaiseau in 1971.

    After finishing his college, Arnault joined his father's firm and within a year he completely changed the company's focus and started dealing in real estate. He later succeeded his father and became the CEO of the company.

    Again in 1984, he bought Financière Agache, a luxury goods company, and Boussac Saint-Frères, a textile company. Under Boussac, Arnault owned Christian Dior, a department store Le Bon Marché, a retail shop Conforama, and the diapers manufacturer Peaudouce.

    He then sold all other companies but saving the Christian Dior brand and a department store Le Bon Marché.

    Bernard Arnault Bought LVMH's Shares & Changed The Face Of The Company

    If anything, Bernard Arnault is a fearless investor and a visionary, his business decisions surprise people.

    He first turned a construction company into a real estate company, then jumped into a fashion line and even ran a textile company. Then, all of a sudden he bought 24% holding shares of LVMH which made him the highest shareholder of the company. He then got elected to the chairperson of LVMH in 1989.

    Then, the fashion producer rapidly started buying other new and promising companies and added them to Louis Vuitton's belt. In July 1988, he bought Céline a leather wear producer. Then in 1993, LVMH acquired men's wear Berluti and fashion wear Kenzo.

    Then, Arnault bought an economic newspaper La Tribune. Later, he tried his hands on fragrance and bought a perfume producer Guerlain. He then bought several other fashion companies like Loewe, Marc Jacobs, Sephora, Thomas Pink, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, DKNY and one of the largest departmental store La Samaritaine in 2001. 

    Then LHMV brought some of the furious plans to prompt its brand in the United States and started operating from the LVMH Tower in Manhattan.

    He also has a share in Netflix. He also has shared in an LA-based investment company Colony Capital. Additionally, he still has a 10.69% share in Carrefour which is the world's second-largest retail distributor.

    Additionally, he owns two luxury yacht businesses Princess Yachts and Royal van Lent, commonly bought for over $500 million euros.

    In 1998, with businessman Albert Frère he purchased Château Cheval Blanc in a personal capacity.

    Then with his businessman friend and partner late Albert Frère, Bernard purchased Château Cheval Blanc Château d'Yquem.

    Social Work & Charity

    Arnault's family isn't just into making money but is one of the very few generous billionaires in the world. The French family donated €200 million to renovate fire damaged Notre-Dame cathedral which was burnt in 15 April 2019.

    The businessman also runs an international competition LVMH Young Fashion Designer program.

    Arnault was the Malaysian 1MDB fund's Board of Advisors for three years starting from 2010 to 2013. During his time in the investment agency, the Malaysian government accused him of Money laundering charges.

    Later, during the French recession, he also applied for Belgian citizenship. His desire to become Belgian was criticized by many but he later stated that he wasn't would stay in France and take his legacy even further.

    Bernard Arnault was first married to Anne Dewavrin and has two children Antoine Arnault (CEO of Berluti) and Delphine Arnault (vice president of Louis Vuitton). Sadly, the pair divorced in 1990.

    The former duo is now the grandparents of two grandsons: Maxim Arnault born in 2014, and Roman Arnault born in 2016 from their first son Antoine.

    After his divorce with Anne, Bernard got married to Hélène Mercier-Arnault, a world-known pianist in 1991. The couple has two sons Alexandre Arnault (26) and the youngest Frederic Arnault.
